Joe Biden is reportedly planning to attend Queen Elizabeth’s funeral with his wife Jill.
The President of the United States will join dozens of other world leaders to attend services at Westminster Abbey on Monday, September 19, the Daily Mail reported on Sunday night (09/11/22).
White House officials confirmed he would attend the meeting and said they would urge world leaders not to travel to London by private jet or helicopter, the report said.
According to the Daily Mail, the world’s most powerful leaders have instead faced being asked to travel by coach to the venue “because of strict safety and road restrictions”.
King Charles will host a welcome evening for world leaders at Buckingham Palace the day before his late mother bids farewell.
According to leaked documents seen by Politico, restrictions on space in the royal residence mean only the head of state and his spouse or partner will be invited.
Politico reported that the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) sent a letter to the embassy on Saturday night (October 9/22) in which it said “regrettably, due to limited space for state funeral services and related events” , no family members, staff or entourage of other members’ principal guests may enter.”
According to the document, world leaders have also been urged to travel on commercial flights and told they cannot use helicopters to travel around the UK, with the FCDO said to have urged them to travel commercially “where possible”.
The Queen’s coffin is now laid to rest in Edinburgh before being transported to St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh on Monday (12.09.22).
Her body will then rest until Tuesday (13/09/22), when it will be taken to RAF Northolt by a military aircraft.
Her Majesty’s remains will then be in a public procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall on Wednesday (14/09/22), where the coffin will be placed on an elevated platform with the Imperial Crown, Pearls and scepter.
It will be guarded 24/7 by soldiers and will remain on the ground for the next four days until the morning of her funeral at 11am on Monday, September 19 – the state farewell is now officially declared a bank holiday.
A two-minute silence is expected to be held for her across the country at noon.
The Queen’s resting place will be the King George VI Memorial Chapel, where the ashes of her parents and sister Princess Margaret are buried.
The coffin of her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, will be moved from the royal vaults to the memorial chapel to be joined by Her Majesty the Queen.
