Julian Lennon “never felt” he was always in his father’s shadow.
The 59-year-old musician is the son of Beatles legend John Lennon – but he has never felt overshadowed by his father and his success.
Julian explained: “The whole shadow is driving me crazy.
“‘You’re in the shadows…’Shut up, no, I’m not’. I’ve never felt that way. Only when other people bring it into the frame [that] It’s a reminder of how people see me because I’m going to keep doing things. “
Still, Julian remembers being introduced at school as “John Lennon’s son”.
He told The Independent: “You have to stand up and say, ‘This is Julian Lennon, the son of John Lennon of the Beatles’. I would say, ‘Really? You have to do this? Because you Know how it’s hard to meet real people these days?
“Things like that, it’s just soul-destroying because I just want to be myself and get on with my life. And we do that most of the time, with little help from my dad.”
Meanwhile, Julian is navigating the COVID-19 pandemic at his Los Angeles home.
The health crisis has given him the opportunity to reflect on his life and the direction he’s going.
He shared: “I’ve been alone for almost two years and there are really a lot of people looking in the mirror and thinking, ‘Okay, who am I? What’s my deal? What’s my purpose? Am I happy? What if I’ I’m not happy, so how can I change it?
“It looked at almost every detail of my life and said, ‘How do I achieve balance? How do I find peace?'”
