“Kaajal Kumar – Founder of Wild Goose Events Planning – A Dancer’s Journey into Event Management

  1. How did you start your events business?

I began my career as a professional dancer, honing my craft and collaborating with esteemed artists across the UAE for over a decade. Drawing upon this wealth of experience, I made the strategic decision to diversify my business pursuits and venture into the realm of turnkey event solutions.

  1. ⁠What are your goals?

Our primary objective is to oversee the organization and execution of Expo 2025, from its conceptualization to its completion. This entails spearheading the design process, managing the fabrication of necessary structures and installations, and coordinating the provision and supervision of on-ground manpower essential for the event’s smooth operation. Additionally, we aim to curate and deliver unparalleled entertainment experiences, showcasing the very best that Dubai has to offer, thereby ensuring the Expo leaves a lasting impression on all attendees.

In addition, we aim to establish 3 supplementary offices in strategic locations like Mumbai, Qatar & Saudi Arabia. In my opinion, this will propel Wild Goose Events towards becoming a globally recognized leader in luxury event management thus attracting clients from around the world who seek the ultimate in sophistication and refinement.

  1. What is your and your company’s biggest strength?

With more than ten years as a professional dancer and now as an event manager, I have a deep understanding of what it takes to make events successful. My experience behind the scenes gives me a unique perspective on the complexities involved in event planning and execution. This means I can ensure every aspect of an event is handled with precision and creativity, providing unforgettable experiences for clients and guests. That is my biggest strength.

As a company, we prioritize building a diverse team to meet the needs of all our customers. Human connection is at the heart of our business, and we understand its complexity and importance. By recruiting individuals from various backgrounds and perspectives, we ensure that our team can relate to and understand the diverse needs of our clients. This approach enables us to provide personalized and inclusive experiences that resonate with each customer, fostering strong connections and lasting relationships.

  1. What experiences and steps led you to the place where you are today?

The experience of being married to my husband Devansh! He’s a Punjabi through & through! His passion for living large has catapulted our wedding genre into the spotlight. He’s been pivotal in expanding & elevating the wedding planning experience. His passion for celebrations, food, and hospitality has resonated with our clients, turning many into friends. Thanks to his leadership, our wedding department has flourished, with numerous successful events under our belt.

  1. Describe the biggest challenge you’ve had to tackle in running your business.

Undoubtedly, COVID-19 presented our events business with its toughest challenge yet. We had to quickly adjust to new rules and safety measures while dealing with cancellations and changes. We found solutions like virtual events to keep serving our clients safely. It was a tough time, but it also came with meaningful lessons.

  1. Tell us something about yourself that many people you work with don’t know.

During my time as a professional dancer, I’ve encountered numerous memorable experiences, but one that remains etched in my memory is when Hrithik Roshan, riding high on the success of “Kaho Na Pyaar Hai,” visited Pune to perform in honor of the Pune Police Department. Our dance troupe dedicated weeks of intense rehearsals, knowing that the entire city of Pune would be in attendance for this special occasion.

As we eagerly awaited our turn to perform, the atmosphere was electric with excitement as Hrithik Roshan took the stage to present the cheque to the Pune Police Department, sending the crowd into a frenzy. However, as soon as our music started and we stepped onto the stage, we were taken aback as Hrithik swiftly performed his iconic “Kaho Na Pyaar Hai” step twice and exited, leaving us bewildered. With the emcee quickly introducing Hans Raj Hans to the stage ahead of schedule, we found ourselves in a moment of unexpected improvisation. Refusing to let our hard work and rehearsals go to waste, we seamlessly transitioned into becoming Hans Raj Hans’s backup dancers, merging our Bollywood choreography with his authentic Punjabi songs. Can you imagine doing ‘Ik Pal Ka Jeena” pelvis thrust steps to “Dil Tote Tote”? I’m still laughing just thinking about it.

  1. What is a typical day like for you?

Every day in our line of work is unique. A typical day at the office starts with coffee and chatting with the team. We research the market, keep up with current events, and check social media trends to find ways to use our skills.

On event days, however, the pace is intense and the hours are long. Whether we’re all together at a single event or spread out across multiple venues, the dynamic nature of our job keeps us on our toes. So every day is a mix of excitement, stress, and entertainment.

  1. Describe a time when you and your team had to think and act strategically.

One of the most significant events we managed last year was the “Mata Ki Chowki” ceremony, a first-of-its-kind initiative. With no precedent to draw inspiration from, we approached the project with careful consideration. It was crucial to honor the spiritual values of all involved while navigating the regulatory landscape of Dubai’s government. Operating in a non-democratic country required us to be particularly cautious not to overstep any boundaries. Balancing cultural sensitivity with regulatory compliance was paramount in ensuring the success of the event while respecting both spiritual and governmental perspectives.

  1. What values have helped you overcome challenges in your career? Tell us about a time that you led others to success.

Consistency and transparency are the cornerstones of our work ethic. Devansh & I believe in being honest in all that we do. What you see is truly what you get with us. Building trust with our team & clients has helped us navigate challenges and build strong relationships throughout our endeavors.

I’ve had the privilege of being a guiding force for many of the artists I’ve worked with, who have gone on to establish themselves not only in the events industry but also in the Bollywood film industry.

  1. What distinguishes your company’s services from those of its competitors?

What truly distinguishes our company’s services from those of our competitors is undoubtedly our diverse team. With team members representing various demographics including singles, married individuals, parents of adolescents, parents of toddlers, and more, we bring a breadth of perspectives and experiences to the table, enabling us to better understand and cater to the diverse needs of our clients.

  1. How do you handle rapid growth and scale effectively?

We at Wild Goose Events manage rapid growth and scale effectively by actively networking, staying in constant communication with past and present clients, and keeping abreast of industry trends. Additionally, we maintain an open attitude toward learning, always seeking opportunities to expand our knowledge and skills.

  1. Tell us about the upcoming releases we should be aware of.

We are eagerly anticipating a series of exciting events in the coming year, including destination weddings, product launches, and social gatherings. These events represent unique opportunities for us to showcase our expertise and creativity in event management. Working with such fabulous clients further fuels our enthusiasm, and It’s a privilege to be entrusted with these events. We’re super excited to embark on this journey of collaboration and celebration.
