Kanye West’s honorary degree revoked for anti-Semitic remarks

[ad_1]

Controversy is nothing new for Kanye West. The rapper, who goes by the name Ye, has made offensive statements about the Jewish community and black people in recent months.

West lost his billionaire tag after Adidas ended a multimillion-dollar Yeezy deal because of his anti-Semitic comments. Not only that, but many other fashion houses, including Balenciaga and Gap, have also cut ties with the rapper over his rambling comments. Still, West has continued to defend his statements and recently appeared on conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ show, where he reiterated his admiration for Adolf Hitler.

Now, because of his remarks, West has lost yet another remarkable honor. On Thursday, the Art Institute of Chicago revoked Kanye’s honorary doctorate.

Condemning Ye’s remarks, the institution announced its decision in a statement: “The Art Institute of Chicago condemns and denies Kanye West’s (now known as Ye’s) anti-black, anti-Semitic, racist and dangerous remarks, especially Those targeted the black and Jewish communities.”

“Ye’s behavior is not in line with SAIC’s mission and values, and we have revoked his honorary degree.”

The rapper was honored in 2015.

The degree was revoked after a SAIC group called “Against Hate” launched a petition on Change.org calling for action against West.

“Regardless of his contributions prior to receiving the award, it is detrimental to allow Yeh to continue using the Art Institute of Chicago as he is now known to help legitimize hate and violence,” the petition reads.

“This harm affects the artists, designers, and scholars who are affiliated with the Art Institute of Chicago and their values of justice, compassion, and free expression without hate.”

West recently confessed his love for Nazi leader Adolf Hitler while appearing on the Infowars show hosted by ideologue Alex Jones.

Kanye covered his face with a black mask and said “I like Hitler” several times on the show.
