Kevin Spacey Receives Lifetime Achievement Award in Italy

An Italian film museum has announced that Kevin Spacey will receive a lifetime achievement award and teach a masterclass there early next year.

Enzo Ghigo, director of the National Film Museum in the northern city of Turin, said that on January 16 a course and an award for Mr Spacey’s contribution to the development of the film would be held.

The event will also include a screening of a Kevin Spacey film, although Mr Gigo did not say which one.

Two weeks ago, a jury in the United States concluded that Mr. Spacey did not molest actor Anthony Rapp, both relatively unknown actors in the 1980s Broadway play, when Rapp was 14.

On Oct. 21, a federal jury in a New York civil case deliberated for more than an hour before deciding that Mr. Rapp, 50, did not prove his charges.

In U.S. civil cases, any charge only needs to be proven “on the balance of probabilities,” not by the criminal standard of “beyond all reasonable doubt.”

“We are honoured that a prestigious guest like Kevin Spacey has chosen Turin and our museum for this long-awaited event with an audience,” said Mr Ghigo.

Previous Stella della Mole winners include actresses Isabella Rossellini and Monica Bellucci, and director Dario Argento.

Mr. Spacey shot his most recent film in Turin, director Franco Nero’s The Man Who Painted Gods.

“Now, of all the cities in the world, he chose Turin for the master class.

“He couldn’t give us a better gift than this,” said Domenico De Gaetano, director of the National Film Museum.

Mr. Gaetano plans to interview Spacey about his career at the January event.
