This will be her last meal.
The 40-year-old noticed a Chrysler Le Baron parked in the driveway of her home in Palm Beach County, Florida.
Getting out of the car was a woman dressed like a clown who walked nonchalantly to the front door.
“The person dressed as a clown was holding a flower arrangement and two balloons,” the sheriff’s office said at the time.
One of the balloons has an image of Snow White on it, and another has the words “You are the Greatest!”
Her son, John Ahrens, told 48 Hours that he remembered his mother saying, “Oh, how beautiful.” Then the boy heard a gunshot.
“At first we thought maybe the balloon had popped, but when we saw her fall, we knew something was wrong,” Ahrens said. “I remember it being one of the worst days of my life.”
Warren was shot in the face and died in hospital two days later.
The murder is one of the most bizarre in Florida history, and the Sunshine State has no shortage of psychopathic homicides.
Marlene’s family has been without their “special girl” for years.
“When she was killed, everyone was robbed,” said her stepfather, Bill Twain.
Now, more than three decades after Marlene Wallace breathed her last, accused ‘killer clown’ woman Sheila Keen-Warren is set to take a Tried for murder.
Police had good reason to suspect Keen-Warren, 27, at the time of the murder. She works for Marlene’s husband, Michael, repossessing the car. The two had an intense romance. Sheila is also married, but she and Michael are planning to start a new life together.
But there is no evidence in the early 1990s that Sheila (now known as Debbie) and Michael continued their lives and married, first in Tennessee, where they opened a restaurant, and later in Virginia.
A Maine prisoner named Edward Barr comes on, who once bragged to a cellmate that “he murdered a woman in Wellington, Florida” decades ago.
Detectives from Florida headed north to interview Barr, who promised to tell police “everything he knows” if they could guarantee he wouldn’t send him to the electric chair. The investigator said he couldn’t guarantee it, so the criminal hired a lawyer.
As for her husband, the defense team said prosecutors have long suspected Marlene’s husband was involved in the murder plot. He has never been charged with crimes and has denied any wrongdoing.
Still, Bahr has some exciting details, including a bombshell — Bahr’s claim that the husband of Marlene Warren, whom he met at the Mermaid Bar, hired him to get his wife off the board because the couple were breaking up and she Going to buy a lot of cars.
In 2022, Barr denied any involvement and said he learned the details from television. What he fails to mention is that there is no television in solitary confinement.
Cold case detectives reopened the investigation in 2014. Advances in DNA technology will help. DNA found in a stolen Chrysler Le Baron used in the attack was linked to Keen-Warren.
On Sept. 26, 2017, Palm Beach County finally apprehended Sheila Keen-Warren in Virginia for murdering her rival nearly 30 years ago.
Keen-Warren’s defense team is working to get some of the evidence — and the case itself — dismissed following a nearly six-year delay.
Expected to testify are employees of Spotlight Capezio, a clothing store in West Palm Beach. Two days before Marlene Warren’s brazen execution, it was Kean Warren who bought an orange wig, a “yellow and pink” clown suit and a makeup bag, but not the mask, store employees said.
Keen-Warren’s long-awaited trial is scheduled to begin sometime in May with jury selection.
