MANILA, Philippines – Kimberly Anne Custodio won gold at the 2022 JJIF Jiu-Jitsu World Championships in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on Wednesday.
Custodio dominated the women’s -45kg category, beating Thailand’s Kacie Pechrada Tan 6-4 in a thrilling final.
After winning the gold medal, Coustodio burst into tears and immediately went to her teammates in the stands to cheer her on.
Custodio beat Sakaew Tadaporn 14-0 in the semi-finals and he beat hometown staker Hamdah Al Shkeili 14-0 in the quarter-finals.
Tadaporn and Shkeili took home the bronze.
Meanwhile, Philip Cristopher Alegre and Ashley Jeraine Baluyot failed to advance in the men’s -77kg and women’s -52kg categories respectively. Celeste Flores
