The UK and the UAE “share a similar vision for the future of our world”, Al Jafri said, and his “paintings full of history and hope” aim to portray that.

He told Esquire Middle East: “As a British artist who has lived in Dubai for over 10 years and has a longstanding personal relationship with Charles and William… I am especially honored to be able to unite two of my favorite countries in the world.”

artist emphasizes King’s Environmental Certificate Because Dubai will host Cop28 in November.

“The world is on the edge of discord, disconnection, misunderstanding and catastrophic issues of climate, food security, humanitarianism and sustainability,” he said.

“But I feel that Cop28 will be a turning point for a better future for the children of our world, and I hope that in the most sincere way, this painting will reflect this change and be a catalyst for its developmental necessity.”

Artwork “very personal to me”

Jafri, who holds the world record for creating the largest canvas ever created, launched Journey of Humanity in Dubai in 2020.

He had previously been commissioned by the King to create a portrait of “the most influential living Muslim” for the Mosaic Initiative, a charity established by the then Prince of Wales in 2007.

Celebrity collectors of the artist include former US President Barack Obama; Bill Gates; Leonardo DiCaprio; David Beckham; and George Clooney. He usually donates the proceeds from the sale of his works to charity.

The latest creation was intended as a gift to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai.

The royal family was close to the Sheikh before a judge ruled in 2021 that he had ordered his ex-wife’s phone tapped.

He had previously gifted the late Queen’s horses and was a regular at Royal Ascot, even riding in her carriage to race with the monarch.

The King and Diana, Princess of Wales first met the Sheikh when they visited the UAE in 1989.

He has since returned to the country four times, most recently in 2016.

Mr Jafri said: “It is very personal for me to be able to capture King Charles III’s philosophy, concerns, passions and personal vision for the past, present and future as a gift…to the ruling family of Dubai. Definitely a highlight of my career.”
