Labor cases in Abu Dhabi to drop 40% by 2022

Labor disputes in the emirate of Abu Dhabi will drop significantly by 40% in 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. This is the result of efforts to raise awareness, which has helped strengthen the legal culture of workers and companies, as well as educating them about the rights guaranteed by UAE labor laws, according to the Abu Dhabi Department of Justice (ADJD).

Counselor Youssef Saeed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Justice, attributed this qualitative achievement to the increased awareness of companies and individuals on the laws in force in the country, as well as to the Ministry and strategic partners. He noted that these initiatives are aimed at promoting legal culture in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Courts and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Justice.

Al Abdri noted that progress in the legal process of labor cases, and the way labor courts handle disputes, contributes to greater economic stability for institutions and individuals. This is in line with the ADJD strategic plan and the emirate’s vision, which helps support the emirate’s position as an attractive destination for foreign investment and business, he added.

Also, through these campaigns, the Department of Information is keen to visit a large number of clients and provide them with translations in up to 5 languages ​​such as Arabic, English, Urdu, Pashto and Bengali as a convenience The way of speaking is conveyed to the target group in their own language. This helps to make them aware of the important laws that safeguard their rights in the UAE and to answer their questions and inquiries and provide legal advice.

The decline in labor cases reflects the department’s efforts to spread legal culture through outreach campaigns to employees. Over the past year, several activities have been carried out in labor camps to familiarize workers with their obligations under the new labor law.

These activities emphasize the need to observe occupational safety and health instructions, protect production tools and implements, not hold work-related documents or electronic files for personal gain, adhere to good behavior, not divulge secrets, maintain work, strive to develop functional and professional skills and improve performance levels.

These activities are also aimed at informing employees about the procedure for entering into a contract with an employer, the correct methods and channels for filing complaints, obtaining rights under the employment contract in case of termination of the contract or failure of the employer to fulfill its obligations, as well as termination requirements.

The mechanism of obtaining unemployment insurance, the regulations for transferring to another workplace, the way of obtaining a new work permit according to specific rules, the importance of referring to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation in the absence of an agreed job offer, the salary offered by the employer or the worker Failure to receive wages on time is the focus of these campaigns.

The campaign also emphasizes the right of employees to leave the company after performing their duties, and the importance of expressing grievances in accordance with the law, by filing complaints through legal means, without causing confusion and gatherings.
