Dubai-based billionaire businessman Mukesh Wadhumal “Micky” Jagtiani, founder and chairman of Landmark Group, died today at the age of 70.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our founder and chairman, Mukesh “Micky” Jagtiani, surrounded by his loving family,” the Landmark statement said.
Micky Jagtiani leaves behind a strong legacy of the leading family business group in the GCC region and beyond, which he founded and managed for decades.
“Known for his unwavering client-centric approach and deep market understanding, Micky was a guiding force in making Landmark Group and its brands household names in the community. His inspiring leadership will always be missed, More importantly, for his humility and genuine concern for all the lives he touched,” the statement said.
Founded in Bahrain in 1973, Landmark Group has successfully grown into one of the largest retail organizations in the Gulf region.
Over the years, Landmark Group has expanded into fashion, electronics, furniture and budget hotels in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. It employs around 45,000 people and has more than 1,000 stores in the Middle East and India.
In 2008, Jagtiani bought a 6% stake in British high street retailer Debenhams. In May 2023, according to Forbes, he had an estimated net worth of $5.2 billion.
