Muslims fast for 13 hours and 43 minutes on the first day of the holy month. This has now increased to over 14 hours. The fasting period for Ramadan 21 is 14 hours and 21 minutes (from Imsak to Iftar).

By the end of Ramadan, the fasting time will increase to almost 14 and a half hours. On the 29th of Ramadan, Imsak is at 4.21am and Iftar is at 6.47pm. Therefore, the fasting time is 14 hours and 26 minutes.

Mosques across the country will hold special Ramadan late-night prayers called Qiyam-ul-layl. “Qiyam” means standing and “ul-layl” means night. Hence, it literally means standing in the dark. Voluntary prayers usually take place after midnight and last between one and a half to three hours. Muslims may offer it at home or during congregations in mosques, with the aim of spending part of the night by worshiping Allah.

Zakat Al Fitr is a charity event for the poor in the days leading up to the end of Ramadan. This amount can be given from the first day of Ramadan until the morning of Eid, before the Eid prayer time. This year, the UAE Fatwa Council has unified the Eid al-Fitr at 25 dirhams.

Many Muslims use apps and websites to automate donations and distribute them during the last 10 days of Ramadan. With this, they want to make sure they give charity on Laylat Al Qadr.
