Lila Hotel scammers posing as UAE royal staff arrested from Bengaluru

Delhi police arrested a 41-year-old man who Allegedly impersonating a royal employee Abu Dhabi, and cheated Leela Palace Hotel by staying for more than three months and leaving without paying bills of hundreds of thousands of rupees. Police said the defendant, Mohammed Sharif, Arrested from Bangalore January 19th.

Police said Sharif stayed at the five-star hotel from August 1 to November 20 last year and left without informing anyone. The man was also suspected of stealing silverware and other items from the hotel room, the police said, adding that he owed the hotel Rs 2.3-2.4 lakh. Hotel management filed a lawsuit against Sharif on Saturday.

Police said multiple teams were deployed to track down and apprehend the accused.

Manoj C of DCP (South West) said, “According to technical surveillance, the defendant was tracked down and ended up in the bangalore He appeared in court and the matter is being investigated.”

During the interrogation, the police found that Sharif checked into the hotel with a fake business card and pretended to be an important official of the UAE government. He also gave the UAE resident card.

“He gave the hotel a post-dated check to pay his bill. He lied to the hotel staff that he was working at the office of Sheikh Farah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the royal family of Abu Dhabi. He was in Abu Dhabi and Stayed in Dubai for a few months but did not work with the royal family. He has also stayed in several hotels in other cities. We are contacting the hotel staff…” said an official.
