As book lovers, our friends at the UAE Literature Foundation have a special relationship with the gatekeeper of literature, the librarian. They even awarded annual awards to the best school librarians in the UAE.

The collection of books in this week’s list is so diverse in themes and periods that at first glance, they don’t seem to have anything in common.But they are connected by common threads created by former librarians, and they are all Extraordinary.

PS I still love you Jenny Han

The sequel to the bestseller To all the boys I have lovede. This book explores young romance and relationships. Lara Jean is back, she still has boy troubles. Falling in love is not a problem, but then things are very complicated. The story is not unique, but the characters are cute, and Han Zhenni’s writing style makes it fascinating and easy to understand.

Jenny Han is best known for her award-winning youth novel in 2014, which was also adapted for the screen. She has a long-term relationship with literature, especially children’s literature-she has a master’s degree in creative writing, she used to work in a children’s bookstore, and was a part-time school librarian in New York when she sold her first novel Shug .

Grimm’s Fairy Tales by Brothers Grimm

Once upon a time, everyone had this collection of fairy tales. There are now a large selection of children’s books to choose from, and Brother Grimm’s original work may be considered too dark, with its warning tone and often unpleasant ending. But the stories of Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty still stand the test of time: they have been adapted to the screen many times and are considered timeless classics.

The Grimm brothers both studied to be lawyers, but they were all tempted by literature. The elder Jacob started his library work in Jerome Bonaparte’s private library. He also worked with his brother William in the Kassel Library and the University Library of Göttingen.

Beezus and Ramona by Beverly Cleary

Is there anyone like Ramona Quinby in the world? Her sister Beatrice, also known as Beatus, doesn’t think so. Beverly Cleary is a prolific writer, her name has more than 30 titles, but she is best known for her Ramona Quimby series. When she was a child, she was a frequent visitor to the school library, but felt that their bookshelves lacked stories about children like her. She studied English at the university and obtained a degree in library science. In her first job, she met children who had the same complaints, and that was when she wrote her first book on paper.

Andre Norton’s Time Trader

She is a pioneer in the young adult market, known as the noblewoman of science fiction and fantasy, and has an award named after her, which is awarded by the American Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association every year.

Madeleine has been a writer since she was a child, but didn’t publish until she got her degree in English. She gained work experience in the theater and then worked in the church library for 30 years, but by then she was already known for writing. So maybe she should belong to a category of her own-the author has become a librarian?
