These businesses have been part of the emirate’s cultural fabric for decades
Fifteen businesses in Abu Dhabi – from carpet shops to restaurants – are accredited by the emirate’s Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT). They were honored as “urban treasures”.
“Urban Treasures” is a new initiative honoring businesses that have been part of Abu Dhabi’s cultural landscape for over 20 years.
Here are the companies selected this year:
Indian Palace Restaurant
India Palace is an exciting new concept in casual dining: Indian Cuisine, curated by India Palace. Combining Indian cuisine and Mughlai’s rich hospitality traditions, the menu offers tantalizingly delicious, wholesome food and beverages in a warm and refined atmosphere. The first Indian palace opened in the UAE in 1997. The restaurant has several branches in famous locations in Abu Dhabi, including Al Salam, Mushrif Mall, Mazyad Mall, Deerfields Mall and Dalma Mall.
Ibrahim Restaurant
This is a well-known Pakistani restaurant that now has nine branches in the UAE. Al Ibrahimi Restaurant opened its first branch in Abu Dhabi in 1993. The restaurant has two main branches in Abu Dhabi City – one along Electra Street and the other behind Madinat Zayed Mall.
Al Raiqa Dates and Fruit Trade
The supermarket and date store are located in the Al Mina district of Abu Dhabi. It is one of the leading retail and wholesale distributors of date fruits. The store is located at the Mina Vegetable and Fruit Market near Mina Zayed in Abu Dhabi.
alsafa rug
The family opened their first stop in 1996 in the Mina area of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi’s central market. The Mina Zayed rug market, set up by Shaikh Zayed to help poor retailers, is a bargain. There are more than 50 businesses in this place, mainly owned by Afghan businessmen.
All prints
Located in the Sheikh Saif Bin Butti building on Al Nasr Street in Abu Dhabi, the company opened its first bookstore in Abu Dhabi in 1968. The company provides education and distribution services to schools and universities in the UAE.
Jashanmal National Corporation
The company opened its first department store in Abu Dhabi in 1964. The company is engaged in small business, general traders, electronics and children’s business activities. Its main Abu Dhabi outlet is located in Abu Dhabi’s Corniche Rd W – Al Marina, the Corniche Rd W – Al Marina.
Al Sultan Bakery and Market
Al Sultan is a chain of bakeries in Abu Dhabi serving bread, manakesh, Arabic and international desserts, cakes, birthday cakes and wedding cakes. The company opened its first bakery and supermarket in Abu Dhabi in 1990.
Lebanese Flower Bakery (LFB)
Lebanon Flower Bakery LLC (LFB) is headquartered in Abu Dhabi with headquarters in the Mussafah area. The business opened in Abu Dhabi in 1972 and is a local leader in the retail bakery industry channel. LFB has earned a good market reputation for producing high quality but affordable products. Its products include mini pizzas, croissants, breads, pastries, cookies and more.
Buta Fish Restaurant
Established in 1968, Bu Tafish Seafood Restaurant is one of the oldest restaurants in Abu Dhabi. It started as a street food stall run by a Palestinian who got the nickname Bu Tafish from the late Sheikh Zayed, one of the food’s biggest fans. The interior may feel like a hotel lobby—automatic glass doors, beige walls, orchids—but what it lacks in style more than makes up for in flavor. The restaurant is located in the C14 building near Khalifa Company, 16th Street, Abu Dhabi.
Tripoli sweets
Opened in 1987, this candy store offers some of the best authentic Arabic sweets in Abu Dhabi. It is located at the Abdur Rhman Al Hamily Building – 12th Street in the Khalidiya area of Abu Dhabi.
Malik and Shaheed store
This is a tailoring accessories company for clothing and clothing. Malik and Shaheed opened their first fabric store in Abu Dhabi in 1992. This is a well-known fabric store located in the Madinat Zayed area of Abu Dhabi.
Al Dafra Restaurant
The restaurant opened its first Arabic seafood restaurant in 1993 at Mina Zayed in the heart of Abu Dhabi. Al Dhafra Restaurant represents a truly important Emirati heritage. This beloved restaurant has been recognized as one of Abu Dhabi’s culinary landmarks since 1983. Serving authentic Lebanese cuisine, this restaurant chain has been a pioneer in the dining market for over 35 years.
Corniche Road Automatic Bakery and Market
The company opened its first bakery and supermarket in Abu Dhabi in 1988. It is one of the best bakeries in Abu Dhabi, serving Arabic bread, pastries and cakes or sweets, Manakish, cheese, zaatar as well as grocery stores.
Aksa Candy
Dessert shops along Salam Street specialize in Arabic desserts such as knafeh, warbat and basboosa, serving a diverse clientele since 1980.
