super sucker In 1988 in Tucson, Arizona by high school friends Eddie Spaghetti (formerly Edward Carlyle Daly III, bass, vocals), Ron Heathman (guitar), Dan “Thunder” Bolton (guitar), Dancing Eagle (formerly Dan Seigal, drums) and Eric Martin (lead vocals). After playing locally under the name Black Supersuckers for about a year, the band moved to Seattle, ostensibly in search of a better climate for leather jackets. Martin left the band shortly after, and Eddie Spaghetti took his place as lead singer. The band shortened their name to Supersuckers and recorded singles for several independent labels, including eMpTy, Sympathy for the Record Industry and Lucky; these were collected on the eMpTy compilation The Songs All Sound the Same, which became the band’s 1992 release The first CD released in 2009. That year, they signed with Sub Pop and released their debut album, The Smoke of Hell, produced by Jack Endino and featuring cover art by acclaimed cartoonist Daniel Krause. The album featured one of the band’s most famous songs on “Coattail Rider,” and also spawned the single “Hell City, Hell,” whose B-side was a fan-favorite cover of Ice Cube’s “Dead Homiez.”
