Erase your mistakes: one google pixel The best photo editing feature “Magic Eraser” is now rolling out to other Android and iOS devices. But it won’t be free. This week, Google announced that the popular tool, which uses AI to remove unwanted content from images, will be available to Google One subscribers and existing Pixel owners. Facebook Jail: Sarah reports that Meta will reform its punishment system based on the recommendations of the Oversight Board, an independent body of experts, academics, civic leaders and lawyers who are now weighing appeal decisions made by Meta. The social network said it would overhaul its system to focus less on punishing users by limiting their ability to post and more on explaining the reasons behind the removal of their content, which it believes would be a fairer and more effective form of content moderation on the platform Way.
TikTok in the car: TikTok is entering the automotive space, starting with the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class due in fall 2023. Artificial intelligence in my Spotify: Spotify this week rolled out a new artificial intelligence feature called “DJ” to better personalize the music listening experience for its users. Similar to radio DJing, Spotify’s DJ feature will offer curated music and AI-powered voice commentary on your favorite tracks and artists, using what Spotify says is a “very realistic sound.” Neat!
Price drop: Netflix lowered subscription prices in more than 100 regions in the past week, as customers continue to consider which streaming service to keep amid rising prices.The company has recently come under fire following its launch Password Sharing Rules Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain, but another potential reason for the price drop is to better cope with competition, e.g. Paramount+, Apple TV+, Disney+ and gourd.
Military Secret: On Monday, the U.S. Department of Defense secured an exposed server that has been leaking internal U.S. military emails onto the open internet for the past two weeks. The server is hosted on Microsoft’s Azure government cloud for DoD customers, which uses servers that are physically isolated from other commercial customers and can therefore be used to share sensitive but unclassified government data.
Calculated by OpenAI: OpenAI is quietly rolling out a new developer platform that lets customers run the company’s newer machine learning models, like GPT-3.5, on dedicated capacity. In a screenshot of the document posted to Twitter by an early access user, OpenAI describes an upcoming product called Foundry as “designed for cutting-edge customers running larger workloads.”
YouTube supports several languages: YouTube this week announced support for multilingual audio tracks, which will allow creators to add dubbing to their new and existing videos, helping them reach international audiences. The technology to support multilingual audio tracks was developed internally by YouTube, but creators will need to work directly with third-party dubbing providers to create their tracks, the company said.
