Widespread Power Outages in Japan Following Major Earthquakes and Tsunami Incidents

Around 33,500 households faced power outages near the epicenter of a series of major earthquakes in central Japan on Monday, with a total of 21 quakes above 4.0 magnitude reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency.

Tsunami Warnings Follow 7.5 Magnitude Earthquake

One of these earthquakes was a significant 7.5 magnitude event that triggered a sequence of tsunami warnings. Initial tsunami waves, some exceeding a meter in height, reached the north coast of central Japan.

Impact on Coastal Regions: Toyama, Ishikawa, and Niigata Prefectures

The affected areas included the Toyama, Ishikawa, and Niigata prefectures on the Sea of Japan side of Japan’s main island, Honshu.

Transportation Disruptions and Closures: Major Earthquakes

Several major highways around the earthquake epicenter were closed, and Shinkansen bullet train services between Tokyo and the Noto region in Ishikawa prefecture were temporarily suspended.

Government Assurance: No Abnormalities Reported

Despite the seismic activity, the government reassured the public, stating that no abnormalities were reported at key facilities, including the Shika nuclear power plant in Ishikawa.
