The well-known Malaysian film producer Sean Lin collaborated with the Malaysia Pavilion to deliver the country’s message at Expo 2020 Dubai in order to achieve a progressive and sustainable future.

The 30-year-old award-winning music video “Birthplace” will be exhibited in the Malaysia Pavilion throughout the Expo from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, conveying a strong message that the ecosystem needs to be protected To promote the survival of people and the planet.

The video will also be broadcast on Emirates’ in-flight entertainment channel at Dubai Expo 2020 from November 1, 2021, providing Malaysia with a broader space to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development.

Lin is the executive producer of Studio Birthplace and New Frontier Pictures, and he will be one of the “voices” representing the country at Expo 2020 Dubai.

MGTC CEO Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor said: “As a firm believer in the boundaries of the planet, Sean Lin uses fascinating and creative storytelling to raise awareness and inspire action to achieve a sustainable future. Sean Lin is strong, The vivid 5-minute music video attracted the audience through a symbolic story, telling the story of a person reaching a perfect earth, and he continues to meet his nemesis in the form of marine debris.

“The information in this video is in line with our sustainability theme for Expo 2020 Dubai and our advocacy for the’plastic planet’. We were inspired to feature the special message of the Malaysia Pavilion as a feature of this video to inspire others to protect biodiversity And protect the health of the earth to do our part.”

He added that Malaysia is currently finalizing the Plastic Sustainability Roadmap (PSR) to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2021. The roadmap specifically outlines the strategy and action plan to achieve a higher level of plastic recycling in Malaysia. The key actions of the roadmap include the adoption of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program and the public awareness program.

The video ends with a message: “The Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai believes that today will have an impact to create a better tomorrow. Plastics on Earth.”

The video shows a life-size 13-meter pillar whale made of bamboo and covered with plastic waste that is actually collected. The crew spent a total of 35 hours shooting underwater, of which freediver Michael Board conducted more than 250 free dives, and 8 divers controlled artificial whales underwater.

To date, the music video has been viewed more than 5 million times on YouTube, and has won more than 20 awards at local and international film festivals, including the British Independent Music Awards’ video of the year and Camerimage Film’s best music video, Won the global recognition of Polish festivals. By placing Malaysia on the map, Birthplace has inspired Malaysian creative industries to create meaningful stories.

Lin made a music video of his song “Birthplace” for Welsh singer-songwriter and musician Novo Amor.

In addition to the work of this talented producer, the Malaysia Pavilion also has three other award-winning creative studios that have produced special animation features for the exhibition in the pavilion. They are; R&D Studios is known for Batik Girl animation, Digital Durian (known for “Didi and Friends”) and Monsta (creator of “Boboiboy” series).
