A show that contains more cheese than Greek salad, but still interesting…
It has been more than thirty years since the real Abba’s last tour, but this has not stopped Abamania from seizing the planet.
Today there are tribute performances and two feature films celebrating the music of Swedish super bands. But this can be said to be a stage performance Oh mother! -Now 20 years old-this has always been the focus of Abba’s eternal charm.
But what makes this show so fascinating? Well, besides some of the best pop songs of all time, Oh mother! It’s the ultimate feeling good story where love conquers everything.
We want to thank Judy Craymer.
This is her ingenious vision to stage the storytelling magic of Abba’s eternal song into a sunny and interesting story, telling the story of a mother, a daughter, and three possible fathers unfolding in the idyllic poems of the Greek islands.
Since opening in London in 1999, it has gone global through many international tours, including a two-week show in Dubai from September 13th to 25th.
Opening night-only two weeks after the band released its first studio album in 40 years with The excitement of a new virtual concert-the entire Dubai Opera Auditorium (covid capacity adherence) is obvious. A few viewers went all out wearing Lycra, platform shoes and polyester shirts. When the orchestra started their Abba medley, many people were already shaking their shoulders in their seats. Everyone is in good shape.
So, on the show.
As the curtain rises, the audience is taken to a fabulous Greek island, where we meet the young Sufi (played by the lively Lucy May Barker). She is about to marry her boyfriend Sky (played by Toby Miles, with a loud voice and full abdominal muscles), but hopes that her father, whom she has never met, will attend the wedding. The only problem is that she has three possible dads.
Since then, the show has been a lively bubble of cheesy, stupid, and happy fashionable characters that you can’t help but love. The way Abba’s songs are stitched into the narrative often makes you laugh at the absolute boldness of all this.
Winner takes all, A very nice song, when the protagonist Donna (played by the effortlessly talented Saraboize) tells her past and present tense to the man who let her escape, is put in safe hands.

Dancing queen Become a favorite of the night because Donna and her two best friends (played by Helen Anker and Nicky Swift, full of passion and slapstick talent) danced around the bedroom and sang on anything on the dressing table.
At the same time, the three possible fathers, Sam (Richard Stand), Harry (Daniel Crowder) and Bill (Phil Corbett), everyone has that awkward but The caring “dad” demeanor makes you miss yourself.
But for us, what we don’t rush to forget is the ensemble scene of the wrecking ball, like Are you willing, give it to me! Give me! Give me! with Put all your love on me The performance was full of energy and joy, and almost everyone left their seats and danced in the aisle.
Wonderful things Oh mother! Just when you think the story needs to continue, an Abba song will appear to cheer you up.
So yes, Oh mother! Of course there is more cheese than Greek salad, but the very interesting choreography, wonderful songs and unmistakable dedication of the actors mean that everything is normal and you will eventually tremble.
