The Manchester City Abu Dhabi Cup returns in February 2024, continuing the success of this year’s competition.
The Abu Dhabi Cup is a youth football tournament hosted by Manchester City that welcomes players from all over the world and of all abilities to Abu Dhabi and aims to develop and inspire young people.
Launched in 2017, the tournament has grown in size and this year’s event – held for the first time since 2019 due to the pandemic – attracted global attention, with more than 1,700 players from 13 countries on four continents participating, including Players from Manchester Metropolitan Academy) England) and 6,000 spectators attended.
Over 1,000 goals have been scored in 400 games on this year’s Championship pitch, while off the pitch, families and players can enjoy live entertainment, screenings of Premier League matches and fun events at the Urban Village. Further details of this year’s program will be announced in due course.
The competition will take place over the weekend of 17-18 February 2024 at Zayed City Stadium, Abu Dhabi’s iconic landmark and the UAE’s largest multi-purpose sports venue.
The age groups for the 2024 tournament will be: Boys: U8, U10, U12, U14 and U16, Girls: U12, U14 and U16.
Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of Sports Development at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “We are delighted to be staging this fantastic event for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic and we have been overwhelmed by the response we have received from teams, players and families.
“We always try to improve on past events and 2024 will be no exception. It is a great opportunity for young footballers to gain experience playing against top away teams.”
Tournament Director Simon Hewitt said: “After the success of the 2023 competition, we can’t wait to see so many young footballers smiling and having fun at the Manchester City Abu Dhabi Cup in February 2024. Will be back next year and will be a great experience for everyone involved, from players to families and coaches.”
“The competition is very inclusive and caters for all levels of ability, and ends the next day with a final in the City Cup, City Plate, City Trophy and City Shield, all up for grabs. One lucky team will win once in a lifetime Manchester City Football Academy tour, free of charge.”
The tournament provides opportunities for teams of all abilities to compete, entertain and win and includes the City Cup, City Shield, City Trophy and City Plate.The City Cup winners in each age group will be automatically entered into an on-site draw to win a fully paid once-in-a-lifetime trip to Manchester.
