[ad_1]

For the first time since 2019, the Manchester City Abu Dhabi Cup is a youth championship organised by Manchester City to develop and motivate young footballers.

Launched in 2017, the Youth Championship has grown in size over the years, attracting global attention with the participation of over 1,750 players (including Manchester City FC Academy players from the UK) and 4,000 spectators from 13 countries on four continents.

In 2018, the Manchester City Abu Dhabi Cup also introduced a new women’s division, which will return in the upcoming 2023.

The match will take place over the weekend of 18-19 February 2023 at Zayed City Stadium, Abu Dhabi’s iconic landmark and the UAE’s largest multi-purpose sports complex. Off the field, away from the action, families will be able to enjoy live entertainment and fun activities in the “Urban Village”.

The age categories for the 2023 tournament are:
• Boys: under 8, under 10, under 12 and under 14
• Girls: under 11 and under 14

Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “The Abu Dhabi Sports Council is delighted to once again support Manchester City in the Abu Dhabi Cup. The football championship in the capital is vital to ensuring the growth, further development and improvement of the football landscape in the UAE. We Delighted to see the Cup return in 2023 and looking forward to welcoming teams from the region to play with Abu Dhabi Youth Football Club.”

Simon Hewitt, senior manager of football operations for the Middle East and North Africa, said: “We can’t wait to see so many young footballers kicking and smiling at Manchester City’s Abu Dhabi Cup in February 2023. Have fun. The game returns and promises a great experience for everyone involved, from players to families and coaches.

“The competition catered for all levels of ability, with the second day culminating in the finals of the City Cup, City Board, City Trophy and City Shield, with one lucky team winning a full-fee City trip to Manchester Football Academy.”
Saleh Mohamed Saleh Al Geziry, Director of Tourism, Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, said: “Inspiring the next generation of sports stars and sharing Abu Dhabi with the world is one of the main goals of DCT Abu Dhabi, so we’re delighted to be supporting Manchester City Abu Dhabi Zabi Cup and showcase our world-class sports infrastructure and partnerships.

“We look forward to welcoming players and families from near and far to experience Abu Dhabi at their own pace, whether it’s the thrills of a theme park, inspiring cultural attractions, or some hard-earned private R&R at some of the best beaches and hotels in the world.”

Tournaments provide teams of all abilities with the opportunity to compete, entertain and win, and include the City Cup, City Shield, City Trophy and City Plate. The City Cup winners from each age group will automatically enter the live draw to win a full-fee, once-in-a-lifetime trip to the home of the Premier League champions. – arab trade news agency
