Manchester City’s Abu Dhabi Cup returns in 2024, bigger and better than ever

Presented by the Premier League, the event is a youth football tournament for boys and girls of all abilities and levels of all ages from around the world, designed to inspire youngsters to play and develop their skills.

The annual competition started in 2017, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2023 competition is the first since 2019 and has steadily grown in stature. This year’s tournament, which took place on February 18-19, attracted more than 1,700 players from 13 countries on four continents, including Manchester City’s youth academy players from the United Kingdom, and 6,000 spectators. Scored more than 1000 goals in 400 games.

Off the pitch, young players and their families will be able to enjoy live entertainment, Premier League matches and other fun activities at the Urban Village.

Full details of next year’s plans have yet to be released, but the match will take place over the weekend of 17-18 February 2024 at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the UAE’s largest multi-purpose stadium. The age groups for the teams are U-8, U-10, U-12, U-14 and U-16 for boys and U-12, U-14 and U-16 for girls.

Executive Director Talal Al-Hashemi said: “We are delighted to be hosting this fantastic event (this year) for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic and the response we have received from the teams, players and families has been genuine. We are overwhelmed,” said the head of sports development at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

“We always try to improve on past events and 2024 will be no exception. It is a great opportunity for young footballers to gain experience playing against top away teams.”

Tournament Director Simon Hewitt said: “Following the success of the 2023 competition, we can’t wait to see so many young footballers smiling and enjoying themselves at the Manchester City Abu Dhabi Cup in February 2024 .

“The tournament will be back for another year and it has been a great experience for everyone involved, from the players to the families to the coaches.

“The event is very inclusive, catering to all levels of ability, and the second day concludes with a series of finals, with the City Cup, City Plate, City Trophy and City Shield all up for grabs. One lucky team will win a full-fee A once-in-a-lifetime trip to Manchester City Football Academy.”

The City Cup winners from each age group will be drawn on-site and one of the teams will win the trip.
