At the Mango Festival, not only the aroma of fresh Pakistani mangoes is in the air, but also Pakistani culture and traditions are highlighted. Everything is mango-colored or fruit-themed—from the yellow carpet that welcomes guests to the robots that deliver mangoes to tourists, the mango-inspired Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and a variety of dishes, salads, and desserts that feature mango-based ingredients.
Sheikh Nahyan visited stalls of different mango varieties including: Chaunsa, Langra, Baigan Phali, Fajri, Sunehra, Anwar, Ratol, Botel, Kaiser, Badami, Dussehri, Sindhri, Neelum, Lal Badshah and Saroli. He also looked at different products made from mangoes in Pakistan.
Mangoes are heart-shaped fruits, and Pakistan’s Consul General Hassan Afzal said the two-day festival has a theme – heart to heart, the road to mangoes.
“It’s nice that we have a lot of diplomats here; the main idea is to promote different breeds to the world,” he added.
South Korean consul general Moon Byung-joon, who came with his wife Kim Ji-won, told Gulf News: “This is our first time participating in this unique event and we really like Pakistani mangoes.”
The two-day event that concluded today was organized by the Pakistani Consulate, Pakistan Business Council and PAD. In attendance were diplomats and trade delegation representatives from Afghanistan, Albania, Ghana, Egypt, Bulgaria, Chile, Sri Lanka, Serbia, Maldives, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lithuania, United Kingdom, United States, South Korea, France and the Philippines, among others .
Faisal Ikram, Chairman of PAD, said: “Pakistan Mango Festival is a unique way to celebrate connectivity and inclusivity, reflecting PAD’s mission.”
He added that the Mango Festival will also benefit the Pakistan Medical Centre – “our signature project, an exemplary model of tolerance in providing quality healthcare to people of all ethnic groups in the UAE.”
Dawood Sharif, Head of PAD’s Education Committee, added: “The Pakistan Mango Festival was one of the best experiences we’ve had in Dubai so far. We’ve witnessed huge participation during the event, with high-level delegates from many countries visiting us. There are interactive games for adults and children, cooking competitions, mango art workshops, sports, shopping, photo booths and more. There will also be a #MangoForACause booth and all proceeds will go towards supporting free healthcare in Pakistani medical centres.
