Masdar and PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) have signed an agreement to expand Phase II of the Cirata floating photovoltaic (FPV) power plant in Indonesia by up to 500MW, tripling Southeast Asia’s largest FPV plant.
The signing ceremony was attended by UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Indonesia’s Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, and Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
The expansion builds on the initial 145MW phase located in the Cirata reservoir in West Java, which is set to become operational later this year.
New regulations allow for up to 20% of water coverage for renewable energy, paving the way for the additional 500MW expansion. This partnership aligns with the goal of tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030 and reinforces the UAE-Indonesia clean energy partnership. Masdar continues to expand its presence in Indonesia, with interests in geothermal energy and a local office established in 2021.
