Jino Kavalamthara: Building a Legacy in Personal Training and Strength Transformation

We had the opportunity to interview Jino Kavalamthara, a fitness tutor and exercise specialist. Jino is a personal trainer with a passion for transforming lives through strength training. He’s not just about physical fitness; he’s here to help you feel strong, healthy, confident, and, most importantly, happy. Whether you’re new to exercise or looking to take your strength to the next level, Jino has a personalized program for you. Let’s dive into his inspiring journey, learn more about the JINOWAY, and explore the qualifications that make him stand out.

Could you share a brief overview of your career and what led you to become a personal trainer?

I’ve always been a sports enthusiast, and my journey into personal training started with a 3-month PT course after my graduation. The knowledge I gained during that course transformed my perspective on health, and I began sharing it with others. The incredible impact I saw on people’s lives became my driving force. It’s been over two decades, and I’m still dedicated to making a positive difference in people’s lives through fitness.

  • Assisting my client in training with weights throughout her pregnancy until the 9th month.
  • Training postnatal clients to regain their pre-pregnancy weight and strength.
  • Working with clients with diabetes whose readings were constantly above 300; now they have a normal reading of 130.
  • Training a client after ACL surgery to achieve a complete recovery and return to playing football.
  • And many more…

How has education influenced your career and success in this industry?

In the realm of personal training, continuous education is vital. My clients present diverse conditions, ranging from diabetes to heart issues. My ongoing education assists me in comprehending these conditions better, enabling me to create tailored corrective exercises that enhance both physical and mental well-being.

Your specialization in Strength Training sets you apart. Can you tell us more about the “JINOWAY”?

Absolutely. The “JINOWAY” is centered around performing each exercise in the safest and most efficient manner, maximizing benefits while minimizing risks. This entails comprehending each client’s individual needs, creating a customized plan, and remaining open to adjustments based on progress. It’s a process I’ve honed through years of research and practice.

What led you to specialize in weight training, and why is it essential?

Strength is the foundation of overall health and performance, whether you’re a professional athlete or someone aiming for general fitness. I believe being strong is underrated. Not only does it give athletes an advantage, but it also helps aging individuals maintain vitality. The research even shows that older adults can benefit significantly from strength training.

What are your future plans, especially with building a team and your impressive qualifications?

I’m currently assembling a team of passionate individuals who share my dedication to fitness and the JINOWAY. It’s a dynamic process, and I’m excited to see how their contributions will further shape our training approach.

As for my qualifications, they include:

  • PD APPROVAL, UK – Qualified to train students for their Level 3 Certified Personal Trainer Course for theory and practical examinations.
  • FOCUS AWARDS, UK – Level 4 Obesity and Diabetes Specialist.
  • FOCUS AWARDS, UK – Pre and Post Natal Exercise Specialist.
  • YMCA, UK – Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training.
  • ACSM – Certified Personal Trainer.
  • SP Jain, India – Master of Business Administration (MBA).

These qualifications empower me to provide high-quality training and reflect my commitment to staying at the forefront of the industry. For example, the Level 4 certificate in Exercise and Nutritional Interventions for Obesity and Diabetes allows me to collaborate closely with the medical community to provide structured exercise and nutritional interventions for obese and diabetic clients.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in your training journey?

Consistency is the key. I’ve always emphasized that my clients give their best effort consistently. There will be good and bad days, but consistency is what truly drives results. The reason is that with consistency the body will be able to adjust to the strains of the new physical activity and adjust efficiently to derive maximum benefit over time. This happens because it gives the body the opportunity to adapt to the progressive overload consistently and thus leading to increased strength and performance.

Another important reason is that we humans are creatures of habit. The more we do it, the more comfortable we feel over time. So, we should start with a long-term goal and then several short-term goals towards reaching there.

Jino Kavalamthara, What advice would you give to beginners in this industry?

I firmly believe in never compromising on the safety of clients. It’s easy to get caught up in delivering immediate results, but ensuring the long-term well-being of clients should always be a top priority.

Some of my suggestions will be;

  • Have a warm up routine for at-least 5 mins
  • Teach proper technique
  • Make sure weight is always under control
  • Use full range of motion, etc.

Are examples of some of the things I would emphasize on.

Before we conclude, could you share some health tips with our readers?

Absolutely. Here’s a protocol that I recommend to my clients unless they have specific needs that require customization:

  • Sleep 7-8 hours
  • Hydrate with 2.5-3 liters of water daily
  • Avoid liquid calories
  • Minimize sugar intake
  • Stick to 4 balanced meals per day, avoid snacking
  • Consume at least 1.2 grams of protein per kg of body weight
  • Ensure intake of essential vitamins
  • Limit alcohol consumption
  • Engage in weight training 3-4 times a week.

This protocol not only increases energy levels and aids in weight management but also strengthens bones and muscles, reducing the risk of disease while improving overall daily activities.

Conclusion

Thank you, Jino, for sharing your inspiring journey, insights, and valuable health tips. Your commitment to safety, the “JINOWAY” of training, and your impressive qualifications are sure to resonate with our readers. We look forward to seeing your personal training company flourish with the same dedication that has marked your career. Best of luck on your exciting journey ahead!
