Matthew Lawrence recently opened up about his dark experiences in Hollywood in the latest episode brotherhood podcast.
The actor shared that he had a disturbing encounter with an Oscar-winning director (whose name was not revealed) who asked him to take off his clothes in order to play a “role” in a Marvel movie.
“There have been many times in my life when I have been offered important roles,” the 43-year-old said.
Lawrence revealed, “I lost my agency because I went to the hotel room of a very famous Oscar-winning director — I can’t believe they sent me.”
The actor shared that the famous “director showed up in a robe, told me to take it off, said he needed to take a Polaroid of me, and said if I did X, Y, and Z, I’d be the next Marvel character”.
Lawrence further stated that he refused and his agency later fired him when he left the “hotel room.”
Reflecting on the #MeTooMovement, Mrs Doubt The actor was described as “a very good thing”, but argued that men do not get the same support as women in the wake of sexual harassment allegations.
“A lot of my other male friends have experienced both men and women in this industry, but there’s a double standard,” the actor explained.
Lawrence noted, “Terry Crews came out and said it, and people were laughing at him.”
“Not many people in the industry come out and talk about this,” commented flowering actor.
He added, “Acknowledging now, it’s probably a third of what women go through … men go through it too.”
