Mediawan Kids and Families teams up with Warner Bros. to explore ‘Racer’, launch ‘Witch Detective’ and sign deal with DeAPlaneta

At the Annecy Animated Film Festival, Mediawan Kids & Family debuted a new slate of youth-focused programming, including “Race Racer” and “Witch Detective,” in addition to signing a licensing deal with DeAPlaneta Entertainment.

Spearheaded by animation veteran Julien Borde, Mediawan Kids & Family is a division of international film and television powerhouse Mediawan, whose recent acquisitions include Brad Pitt’s plan B.

Mediawan Kids & Family has partnered with Warner Bros. Discovery EMEA to produce and distribute its animated series “Karters” for Warner Bros. Discovery’s linear and non-linear services. The action-packed series will premiere on Cartoonito in the EMEA region and will be distributed worldwide, excluding Latin America, by Mediawan Kids & Family Distribution.

“Kart Racer” and “Detective Witch” are both produced by Aton Soumache’s top-notch Method Animation (“The Little Prince”), whose credits include “The Three Musketeers.” “Witch Detective” has already boarded TF1 and Super RTL.

From a screenplay by Lisa Kohn (“The Smurfs,” “Alvin and the Chipmunks”) and Romain Van Liemt (“Iron Man,” “The Little Prince”), “Karters” follows five kids as they venture into dangerous places in go-karts to save the Magical Independent. The battle of horned beasts.

Meanwhile, “The Witch Detective” is a comedy detective series written and co-created by Justine Cheynet (“PJ Masks,” “Petronix Defenders”). It revolves around three young girls juggling work and teenage problems while using their magical skills to solve wacky mysteries.

Method Animation’s pipeline of original and IP adaptations also includes “Taitikis,” a preschool series based on Romuald Racioppo’s book series at Gallimard Jeunesse; “Anansi,” a new action-adventure series in partnership with South Africa’s Diprente; and ” Banana Sioule”, a collection for young people created by Michaël Sanlaville.

As it seeks to establish new franchises, Mediawan Kids & Family also partners with DeAPlaneta Entertainment for licensing and sales. The partnership will begin with “Karters,” for which DeAPlaneta Entertainment will be its exclusive global general licensee, and will co-produce a series for distribution in multiple territories, including Latin America. DeAPlaneta Entertainment will also become the global authorized agent of “Witch Detective” and “Three Musketeers”.

Other Mediawan Kids & Family brands have also announced new projects, including Elliott Studio, which is working with DEMD, another banner of the French Mediawan Studio, on a mixed-media adaptation of the manga “Boule & Bill.” Meanwhile, Somewhere Animation is developing 2D projects such as Chefclub Adventures and “Temtem,” a new comedy-adventure series based on the multiplayer creature-collecting game in partnership with Marla Studios.

Mediawan Kids & Family is gearing up to release “Miracle Movie” widely in France on July 5th and globally on Netflix on July 28th. The big-budget animated feature is a spin-off of the hit TV show, whose sixth season is in the works on TF1, Disney, and Gloob. An original IP produced by Jeremy Zag and Method Animation, Miracle is the highest-rated animated series on Disney Channel Germany in Q1 2023, and is also popular on TF1 France and Disney Channel 2023. United States and Spain.

In addition to “Marvel Movies”, Mediawan Kids & Family Cinema has also released ambitious animated feature films such as Sylvain Chomet’s “The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol”, which has been acquired by Sony Classics America

Mediawan Kids & Family is also home to Joann Sfar’s Magic Society, Italy’s Palomar Animation, UK’s Wildseed Studios and Dutch company Submarine Animation.
