Bye, Facebook. Hi Meta.

In late October 2021, Facebook’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook was renaming the company Meta to reflect its growing focus on the metaverse, which sparked widespread sentiment among digital nomads.

What is the Metaverse?

For the uninitiated, Metaverse can be defined as an analog digital ecosystem that uses augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and blockchain as well as concepts from social media to increase user interaction.

Metaverse will change the world around us.

How will it affect our world?

  • Users will have immersive real life
  • A brave new world for content creators dabbling in 3D (3D) modeling and VR
  • It opens up a new economy where wealth can be created and processed through the use of blockchain currency
  • Data privacy, security, diversity and ethical issues are concerns surrounding the Metaverse

How did the metaverse originate?

The concept is more than three years old. American science fiction writer Neil Stephenson introduced Metaverse in his 1992 novel Avalanche, in which Metaverse helps users escape a dystopian world in the near future.

Facebook isn’t the first company to think of Metaverse. In 2017, a startup called Decentraland came up with a similar concept.

Dubai’s tryst with the Metaverse

At the end of December, Dubai joined the virtual world bandwagon.

ColossalBit, a Dubai-based cryptocurrency, blockchain and non-fungible token (NFT) consulting, consulting, design and development firm, has announced the launch of MetaTerrace accessible through AR and VR.

It’s an alternative world where like-minded people can connect in NFT and cryptocurrency conversations.

It aims to give people a glimpse into the digital future.

The facility is located in the DIFC’s Central Park Building.

Perhaps, this is the future of dining.

Meanwhile, Metaverse Dubai is busy creating an all-encompassing platform involving NFT blockchain transactions, digital real estate.

The concept is based on a world map of the Dubai benchmark area.

What’s more, on January 25, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced plans to bring new technologies to your fingertips.

MOHAP has launched the world’s first Metaverse Customer Wellbeing Service Centre at the Arab Health and Medlab Middle East Exhibition and Conference 2022.

This new virtual service will easily meet the needs of customers in three-dimensional space, while enjoying a digital and interactive sensory experience.

The new product will complete all related inquiries, services and tasks without requiring customers to visit a brick-and-mortar customer happiness center.
