A trailer for the upcoming bilingual film Michael was released on Monday. The film stars Sundeep Kishan and is written and directed by Ranjit Jeyakodi. It also stars Vijay Sethupathi and Gautham Menon.
The trailer begins with a brief definition of a widow spider. Gotham’s character explains that this is a species that kills male spiders soon after mating. A woman’s love is like a sticky spider’s web, and a man is doomed to perish in that cunning spider’s web. The movie seems to have a very cynical view of love and romantic relationships. It seems that in the dark underworld created by Ranjit, the presence of women only invites destruction. The video is filled with action sequences of high pressure, blood spurting and bone fractures.
Sundeep undergoes an impressive physical transformation to play a pompous Michael craving violence. While he seems comfortable committing violence, he doesn’t share Gotham’s dark views on love and women. “Are you doing all this just for a girl, Michael?” Gotham asked. “Yes. Why should a man live, if not for a girl?” Michael retorted.
We barely see Vijay Sethupathi in the trailer. How big of a role he will have in the film remains to be seen. The movie also stars Divyansha kaushik, Varun Sandesh, Ayyappa Sharma, Anasuya and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. It opens in theaters on February 3.
