Residents of the UAE will enjoy mild spring temperatures this Ramadan and fasting periods that may last up to 14 hours, according to an astronomy expert.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomical Society, was interviewed by the Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm. He explained that Ramadan’s new moon will be born on Tuesday 21 March at 21:23 pm – just after sunset – and the next day it will be 10 degrees above the western horizon and set 50 minutes later.

That is why the first day of Ramadan in 1444 AH may begin on Thursday, March 23, 2023, he told the paper, while Friday, April 21 is expected to be the first day of Eid al-Fitr. He explained that the new crescent of the month of Shawwal will be born at 8:13 am on Thursday, April 20, and will be 4 degrees above the western horizon at sunset, making the second day the first of Shawwal.

He told the newspaper that the fasting period at the beginning of Ramadan, which lasts about 13 and a half hours from dawn to dusk, will reach 14 hours and 13 minutes by the end of the month.

Spring starts on March 21, and it will be a spring Ramadan, he noted, next year Ramadan will reach astronomical levels at the end of winter. He told the paper that the temperature in Ramadan 2023 will be between 17 and 35 degrees at the beginning of Ramadan and between 17 and 36 degrees by the end of the month. The “Al Sarayat” spring weather disturbance could also occur during Ramadan, causing heavy thunderstorms.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise (Fajr) to sunset (Maghreb). There are two main meals this month – Suhoor, eaten before sunrise, and Iftar, the first meal after sunset. Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, and it is an obligation that all Muslims who are able to fast must abide by. In addition to fasting and drinking during the fast, Ramadan is also a month of self-discipline, introspection and the formation of positive spiritual habits.

The restaurant is open during Ramadan, but eating and drinking in public places is prohibited.

It is of little value that Ramadan is a month of worship, so in addition to fasting days, many Muslims spend time during Ramadan reading the Qur’an and offering additional prayers such as Taraweeh (after Isha prayers) or Tahajud (before Isha prayers) late night) morning ceremony). Religious activity typically increases in the last 10 days of the month, which are considered the most important 10 days of the month.

Ramadan usually lasts 29 or 30 days, with the month’s start and end determined by the Moon Watching Committee. During the holy month there are fewer working hours and shorter school days.
