The 19-year-old Miya Marcano’s family disappeared in an apartment in Florida and was later found dead in the woods. A negligent death lawsuit has been filed against her apartment building and the company that runs the apartment.

A lawsuit filed earlier this week alleges negligence by the company that owns and operates Arden Villas luxury apartments in Orlando, where Miya lives and works. CNN. The lawsuit seeks compensation in excess of US$30,000, excluding interest, expenses and attorney fees.

The lawsuit also alleges Armando Manuel Caballero’s battery, A maintenance worker at the Arden Villa apartment, who was also the main suspect in Mia’s death, committed suicide Investigators said that after she disappeared.

Miya disappeared on September 24 after failing to board the flight home. Her body was found on October 2 in the woodland near the apartment complex where Caballero once lived. According to officials, Mia’s hands and feet were tied up and her mouth was wrapped in tape.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina previously stated that investigators “very surely believe that Armando Caballero is responsible for Mia’s death,” and the lawsuit listed Caballero’s estate as a defendant.

The authorities stated that they believed that Caballero, who was found dead on September 27, entered Mia’s apartment without her permission.

“We now know that at about 4:30 on Friday afternoon, someone entered Miya’s apartment with a master key issued for maintenance. This should be about 30 minutes before she completed her shift in the apartment complex,” Mina said before.

The family hopes to make the apartment building responsible.

“Arden Villas provided Armando Caballero with the unrestricted access needed to kill Miya. They are responsible for their negligence,” family lawyer Darryl K. Washington said at a news conference.

The lawsuit stated that Miya felt uncomfortable because Caballero was very interested in her and her family believed that the apartment did not take her concerns seriously.

“Marcano expressed her concern to the employees of Arden Villas and her parents. They were worried… The manager of Arden Villas did not take the safety of employees and tenants very seriously,” the lawsuit said.

CNN has contacted The Preiss Company for comment.

According to the documents, the lawsuit requires a jury trial.
