MoCCAE launches first phase of ‘Tamkeen’ program

The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) has launched the first phase of the ‘Tamkeen’ program to develop UAE nationals and strengthen their role in promoting food security in the country. The program will provide them with cutting-edge skills, expertise, experience and the latest best practice in agriculture, veterinary medicine and related technical fields.

The scheme aims to increase the proportion of Emiratis in technical jobs by hiring and training about 60 Emirati graduates in the first phase. The comprehensive training program is designed for agriculture, veterinary medicine, veterinary medicine and animal production specializations and will be carried out in three batches of 20 graduates and will conclude by the end of 2025. Outstanding participants will be handpicked for employment opportunities in a range of ministerial positions across the UAE.

The initiative was launched at an event attended by the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, as well as assistant undersecretaries and representatives from various departments of the ministry.

In her speech, Almheiri stressed that the wise UAE leadership has prioritized having young experts contribute to the country’s various strategic objectives, which include enhancing food security through domestic efforts.

Almheiri said, “The UAE is committed to strengthening its food security by finding innovative solutions to address some of its key challenges, such as scarcity of arable land and water resources. This requires practical approaches and tools to overcome these obstacles, such as advancing modern agriculture and Increasing animal wealth for sustainable national production.

“The Tamkeen program embodies this vision by focusing on building participants’ skills in agriculture, veterinary medicine and other technical fields. The initiative is central to broader efforts to bring about real change in our nation’s agriculture and food sectors. “

Almheiri added: “The UAE is a pioneer in enhancing food security on a sustainable and environmentally friendly basis. As the country will host COP28 later this year, it will be an occasion to showcase and be proud of our achievements in this regard Area of ​​good opportunity. Food production through agricultural activities and exploitation of animal wealth significantly impacts global climate change.”

She said: “You take part in the Tamken program to shoulder the national mission. We will provide you with all support during your training and witness that you will soon grow into experts and pioneers in fields such as agriculture and veterinary medicine. We welcome you to join the national team, You will play an important role in strengthening our nation’s food security for years to come.”

Program participants must comply with all guidelines issued by the relevant authorities and maintain specified working hours according to their training location. Trainees will be regularly monitored and evaluated to achieve program objectives.

Going forward, the program plans to partner with universities to sign agreements to recruit graduates from agriculture, veterinary medicine and other related fields to meet the program’s demand for participants.

The program will last between 6 and 9 months, during which participants will work on a variety of tasks depending on their assigned work location. These tasks include animal care, agricultural instruction, agricultural research, laboratory work, animal and plant quarantine, conducting agricultural survey programs, monitoring plant diseases, and issuing veterinary health certificates.

In addition, students will be exposed to other aspects of the Ministry’s work, such as decision-making, legislation, food and biodiversity. This holistic approach to training will equip more Emiratis with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively contribute to the development of various professional fields. — trade arab news agency
