Mohammed announces UAE priorities at first Cabinet meeting in 2023

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, chaired the first UAE Cabinet meeting of the New Year 2023 at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

The Cabinet meeting was also attended by Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Will; and Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in the Presidency.

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum affirmed that the UAE Cabinet will always be the engine to formulate policies and strategies to realize the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and The desire and development environment of the UAE people to build the best economy and society.

He added, “Today, I chaired the first meeting of the UAE Cabinet of the New Year… We reviewed the results for 2022, the Cabinet approved and formulated more than 900 decisions, 22 government policies, 68 federal laws, 113 national regulations and 71 international agreements.”

“Over the past year, the government has assembled more than 120 teams from 110 federal and local entities and 50 private sector entities to work on updating more than 100 social, economic, educational and regulatory federal laws… Thanks to the efforts of these teams, today we have the most adaptive and responsive government in the world.”

He noted that the UAE ranks among the top 5 in the world in 2022 out of 339 developmental, economic and social indicators.

Mohammed Bin Rashid added: “Today, we approved 5 government priorities for 2023…Building a national identity, enhancing environmental sustainability, developing the education system, accelerating the process of Emiratisation, and expanding our international economic partnerships .”

National Desertification Strategy

The UAE Cabinet approved the National Desertification Strategy, which includes (33) major initiatives and a National Action Agenda to 2030. The strategy is based on five axes aimed at protecting ecosystems, improving conditions in arid and drylands, and mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change on ecosystems affected by desertification.

Comprehensive incentives to support the space sector

The Cabinet approved the issuance of a decision regulating the licensing of space activities and space-related activities within the framework of strengthening and supporting the country’s space sector, stimulating its investment and attracting investors from all over the world.

The Cabinet approved the issuance of a decision to ensure compensation for damages caused to third parties during space activities. The meeting also approved the issuance of a decision to regulate space resource activities in accordance with national space policy objectives.

Integrated System for Financing Federal Higher Education Institutions

During the meeting, the Cabinet approved the current financing system for federal educational institutions as a reference for the financing of these institutions and instructed the Ministry of Education, in coordination with all relevant ministries, to take necessary measures and issue guidelines for the implementation of the system.

Monitor customer satisfaction with government services

The Cabinet approved the Government Services Observatory, which constitutes an interactive digital platform that can display in real-time customer satisfaction with government services and their impressions on various channels available such as websites, smart apps and service delivery centres.

Cabinet approves restructuring of UAE Food Security Council. In addition, the meeting approved a unified financial process guide for overseas donations and fund transfers.

The Cabinet also approved the issuance of a federal decree approving an agreement with the Government of the Independent State of Samoa, the Government of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, a cooperation agreement with the Republic of Serbia and with the Republic of Italy.
