More than 230,000 people are calling for two Texas brothers and their friend to be released from prison, Roomies. The three young men were arrested for allegedly beating their stepfather to death after he was accused of sexually abusing their sister.
According to the New York Post, 18-year-old Alejandro Trevino and 17-year-old Christian Trevino became “enraged” after discovering that their stepdad Gabriel Quintanilla, allegedly touched their sister inappropriately. Quintanilla already has an arrest warrant for sexually abusing another child.
Authorities say the Trevino brothers confronted Quintanilla at his home last week before things got physical. Their friend, Juan Melendez, reportedly joined in on the fight. The three teens allegedly beat Quintanilla with brass knuckles.
Juan Melendez and Christian Trevino have been charged with capital murder and aggravated assault, and Alejandro Trevino has been charged with aggravated assault and engaging in organized criminal activity.
“The three teenagers are currently in custody and have their bonds set at over 1 million dollars each,” the online petition reads. “If convicted of capital murder, they face a minimum sentence of life imprisonment without parole. We ask that the state of Texas release these teenagers, who could possibly spend the rest of their life in prison for protecting their sister.”
The petition, created on Change.org, has garnered 246,000 signatures as of Friday morning.
