Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s ‘Saturday Afternoon’ Opens in US – Variety

Continental Entertainment Pte. Ltd. (CEPL), a Singapore-based film marketing and distribution company with global distribution rights to Bangladeshi directors Mostofa Sabal Farukiof”saturday afternoonwhich will be screened in the U.S. and Canada Reliance Entertainment.

The Bengali and English film was inspired by the brutal 2016 terrorist attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka, which killed more than 20 people on a quiet Saturday afternoon. It has quite a few festival shows, winning awards in Fukuoka, Moscow and Vesoul.

the film was initially banned finally approved for release in January After a four-year battle with the Bangladesh Film Censorship Board. However, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting appears to have turned around and the situation remains fluid. As such, the film will be released in the US and Canada on March 10 and then in Bangladesh. It will also be released in other countries in the coming months.

“I am very happy that this movie is finally being seen by a wider audience. This movie is very important to people in my country and I wish it would be released in Bangladesh first, but I am happy that it will be seen by people all over the world. People see, North America first. I invite North American audiences to come and experience this movie in theaters,” Farooki told type.

Farooki is Bangladesh’s most famous international filmmaker. His films have represented Bangladesh at the Oscars three times.

Sreyashii Sengupta, CEO of CEPL South East Asia, said: “This is a thought-provoking, intense film whose dramatic narrative evokes a range of emotions and dialogue, and we are delighted to bring Bangladeshi Director Farooki’s acclaimed Saturday Afternoon is finally brought to audiences around the world after four years of waiting with bated breath.”

‘Saturday Afternoon’ international cast includes Bangladeshi Nusrat Imroth Tisha (“Holud Bani”), Eyad Hourani (“Baghdad Central”) in Palestine, and Parambrata Chatterjee (“Aranyak”) in India.
