Motorists warned to obey ‘stop’ sign rules as students return to school

Abu Dhabi Police urged motorists to drive carefully and obey traffic rules as students returned to school on Monday after the holidays.

When the “stop” sign on the school bus was turned on, authorities took to social media to urge motorists to bring their vehicles to a complete stop when picking up students.

Abu Dhabi Police reminded motorists that when the ‘Stop’ sign is displayed, they should stop in both directions on the road in both directions and keep a distance of five meters from school buses to ensure the safe passage of students.

Motorists ignoring ‘Stop’ signs will be fined Dh1,000 and will receive 10 points on their license. School bus drivers must also display a “Stop” sign on the bus when picking up or dropping off students. The fine for not displaying a ‘Stop’ sign on a school bus is Dh500 and 6 black points.

Parents must also obey traffic rules, including using school-designated parking spaces when dropping off or picking up children in the morning so as not to obstruct other drivers.

Motorists are advised to drive carefully and slow down when passing through school zones to ensure the safety of students.
