The National Meteorological Center (NCM) participated in 26dayThe United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP26), as part of the official delegation of the UAE, participated in the international conference held in Glasgow, Scotland from October 31 to November 12, 2021.

As part of participating in this event, the center will highlight its achievements in the field of meteorology and extreme weather conditions research and link it to climate change, as well as cloud seeding operations and the latest technologies used in this important field. Helps reduce the high evaporation rate.

The center will also provide updates on cutting-edge research projects carried out by winners of the UAE Precipitation Enhancement Science Research Program (UAEREP). This participation will also help the center establish stronger relationships with key stakeholders in the field of rain enhancement based on some of the UAE’s 10 principles for the next 50 years, including strengthening the UAE’s global reputation, recruiting talents, Retain experts and continuously develop skills.

The center’s participation is also part of the effort to support the UAE’s efforts to host the Conference of States Parties (COP28) in Abu Dhabi in 2023, which will vote on the last day of Glasgow and announce the winning National Conference.

His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, Director-General of NCM and Chairman of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Second Regional Association (Asia), said: “COP26 provides a unique opportunity for NCM to showcase the UAE’s achievements in promoting precipitation enhancement research and ensuring global water Safety. The goal of the conference is very consistent with NCM’s efforts to promote precipitation enhancement research. The event brought together leading researchers, scientists and partners from all over the world to establish a new global partnership to highlight the UAE’s pioneering precipitation enhancement program and exploration Provides an excellent platform.”

The NCM delegation is composed of representatives from the UAE’s Rain Enhancement Scientific Research Program. They will hold several important meetings with officials and experts from different international organizations. In addition, the plan will host a panel meeting on precipitation enhancement and its key role as an enabler of global water security. NCM officials will also participate in a number of expert-led conferences hosted by other government and private organizations participating in the event as part of the country’s official delegation.

Alya Al Mazroui, Head of the UAE Precipitation Enhancement Science Research Program (UAEREP) said: “The program seeks to have a positive impact on global water security by continuing to support innovative research projects in the field of precipitation enhancement research. The strategic importance of many other countries. This conference is an ideal platform to explore the latest technologies and research plans for precipitation enhancement research, broaden our network of international partners, and emphasize the key role of precipitation enhancement in mitigating climate change and water scarcity. In addition. This event allows us to enhance the country’s position as a leading global hub in this important field.”

Since its establishment in 2015 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs of the UAE, the UAE Rain Enhancing Scientific Research Program (UAEREP) has attracted more than 70 people More than 1,811 researchers from 806 institutions around the world.

The fourth cycle of the UAE’s pioneering rain enhancement program is currently underway, and a grant of US$1.5 million is provided for each award-winning research program, with a distribution time of three years. This grant will enable these projects to move from theory to practice, provided that the winning projects should be implemented within two months after the fourth round of winners are announced at a virtual event in January 2022.

The success of the UAE Precipitation Enhancement Scientific Research Program illustrates the prominent position of the UAE in this evolving scientific field. The plan has become the focus of promoting global research cooperation and knowledge transfer to ensure sustainable water resources in countries at risk of water scarcity.
