exchange it
Got some extra fabric, balls of yarn, and glue sticks around? Hilary Davis, owner of That’s Sew Hillary, organizes a craft exchange where you can dump your wares and take home some items you might want to try. In addition to being a great way to share with our community of artists and craftsmen, if you donate your handicrafts, you’ll support local organizations as anything left over will be donated to groups in the area. The exchange will take place on November 4th at the Give Rise Studio, 125 Frederick S. Carroll St. from 5-8pm.

A lifelong artist, Shapiro experimented with multiple mediums until she found the perfect fit: designing homes. She prioritizes the emotional qualities of color and texture, as well as the emotional attachment people form to their environment, to create bespoke interiors for clients through her firm Sho and Co. Read our interview with her and get some advice on your own home in this week’s question.
The band continues to play
As Ron Moss, vice president and orchestral player of the Rohrersville Cornet Band, said: “Before radio and television, almost every town and village had a group of musicians who would entertain their communities. With the advent of mass media As groups grew, groups like this faded away. However, our band went through war, depression, and other upheavals.” A quick history lesson from this week’s story about the Rohrersville band—one of the last community brass bands in the country , which is indeed an anomaly.
