SHERIDAN – Emily Moores’ installation “Enchantment” opens Thursday, December 8 at the Edward A. Whitney Gallery at the Whitney Center for the Arts. On Thursday at 4pm, Moores will speak about her creative process, followed by a reception at 5pm. The event is free and open to the public.
Moores weaves together large-scale papers and highly textured hand-cut fabrics, exploring tactility and its ability to communicate sensations immaterially. The artist uses playful movements of the body to increase energy, release positive endorphins and improve memory. Through her work, Moores uses colorful patterns, textures, and embellishments to transform a space into a whimsical, immersive environment, according to Moores’ official website.
“My intricate patterns and design elements playfully change and shift as people walk past my installations,” says Moores. “Movement is required to see my work in its entirety. Someone walking back and forth in space will have a new experience seeing my installation for the second or third time.”
Moores is a visual artist living and working in Cincinnati, Ohio. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2008 and her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati in 2014. Moores is represented by the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery and the Ohio Advisory Group of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Moores has also received the Ohio Culture Arts Individual Artist Award, the Summerfair Individual Artist Award, and the ArtPrize Seed Award.
