The restaurant industry in Door County is in an era when turnover and innovation don’t seem to be slowing down. By our count, 27 restaurants, cafes and eateries have changed hands or reopened since the last new business publication in May 2022.
How dramatic is this? Well, in 2017, our list only includes 12. The list shows just how vulnerable the restaurant industry is, as eight of those businesses have either closed or changed hands since the list was published.

Sway isn’t new, but its home is. Brewer Matt Sampson has acquired space in the former home of Heirloom Cafe and Door County Brewing Co. to expand his casual beer program in 2023.

Starting in late May, the folks behind Lost Tuk Tuk in Ephraim will be launching a new concept of casual Mexican food outside of Sway’s bar.

Door County’s first self-service pub and restaurant opens at the Peninsula Pub’s old home pub.

Burton’s on the Green, 7670 Horseshoe Bay Road
Alpine Resort opened this casual dining venue in the golf course clubhouse in the fall of 2022, giving Egg Harbor a new restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner year-round.
Cupola Cafe, 7836 Hwy 42
The owners of Daughters & Co. have redesigned a new space in the Cupola House that will offer a menu of snacks and coffee drinks made with Isley Coffee Roasters beans. Reopening in late May.
Mix MEADia, 7740 Hwy 42
Door County’s first mead comes from winemaker Allan Hyland. Operating out of Hatch Distillery, the project offers Wisconsin-grown mead, cider, and wine.
