New Delhi, Jan. 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bollywood Superstars: Short Stories from Indian Cinema will premiere on January 24 and run until June 4, 2023. This is an upcoming exhibition at Louvre Abu Dhabi as part of its vibrant 2022-2023 cultural season. Curated in collaboration with Jacques Chirac and the Musee du Quai Branly, as well as the French museums, the exhibition will highlight the diversity of Indian filmmaking and the art of the Indian subcontinent through its long iconographic tradition and the depth and richness of civilization. make.
The exhibition highlights the rich history of Indian cinema from its origins in the late 19th century to the present through more than 80 artworks, including pictures, textiles, graphic art, costumes and more than 30 film clips. The artworks come from the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Jacques Chirac Museum on Quai Branly, the Army Museum, the Guimet National Museum of East Asian Art, the al-Sabah Collection, the Raja Ravi Varma Heritage Foundation, and the Priya Paul Collection.
With the assistance of Dr. Souraya Noujaim, Director of Science, Curatorial and Collections Management, Louvre Abu Dhabi, the exhibition was curated by Julien Rousseau and Helne Kessous, Director of Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac Museum and Head of Asian Collections, Social Anthropology and Ethnology Doctor of Science, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en eSciences Sociales.
India currently produces more than 1,500 films a year in some 20 different languages, making it the largest producer of films exported to other countries in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Through Bollywood Superstars, museum visitors will learn how Indian pioneers used emerging image technologies such as photography and lithography to jump-start the transition from early cinema to large-scale musical productions. Visitors will learn more about the global popularity of Bollywood and gain a greater appreciation for the diversity of Indian cinema. Comprehensive exhibits cover every aspect of Indian film history, from foreplay, dance and storytelling, to religious and mythological influences, and the emergence of Bollywood celebrities.

Highlights of the exhibition include artworks from the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collection, such as a page from the Harivamsa series: Krishna and His Courtiers by the Sea of Pandaraka (c.1820, Kangra, India); mail armor and plates Armor, known as the “Four Mirrors” armor (c.1600-1800, Mughals, India); and Krishna surrounded by gopis (c.1655, Rajasthan, India). Highlights on loan from partner museums include a figurine of Krishna playing the flute as a child from the Musee du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac (second half 19th century, Rajasthan, India); a dagger from the al-Sabah collection (late 17th century, Kuwait ); an Indian armor from the Musee de l’armee (18th century); a coat from the Musee national des arts asiatiques-Guimet (19th century). Film buffs will especially enjoy screenings of several iconic film clips that have left an indelible mark on Indian cinema history.
