Whitehall – A new restaurant in Whitehall featuring pizza, pies and family game time.
Felicia Watson, owner of The Shack at 505 State St., said people call it Pizza Shack because pizza, pies and salads are usually on the menu.
“We’re just a little pizzeria that has specials every once in a while,” Watson said. “We’re having roast and brisket next week. We like to switch it up so people don’t get bored with the menu.”
All items are made to order using fresh produce, with no frozen meat, Watson said.
“They say people eat with their eyes first,” she said. “I’m fastidious. I give it my all and tell people I make my food with love. We take pride in what we do. Almost everything is homemade.”
Watson opened The Shack because she wanted to provide food options for the community, she said. While there’s no indoor dining because the building is small, they like to have people finish their meals and hang out on the outdoor patio, Watson said.
“There’s really nothing here,” Watson said. “I’m glad I was able to open something. No big deal, just carry around.”
In addition to food, there are games that families and children can play during or after meals, Watson said.
There are two ax-throwing booths, a life-size Connect Four and other board games aimed at being great for families, she said.
“We want families to bring their kids and sit outside and play,” Watson said.
The Shack also provides occasional entertainment — music and shows, she said.
People can bring their own beer, but The Shack doesn’t serve alcohol, Watson said.
The Shack has only been open for about three weeks, but has already had a lot of positive feedback, she said.
“We have a lot of business,” Watson said. “Everyone tells us they love it, we see posts about it all the time. Someone stops me at a gas station and tells me they love it.”
The Shack is open Monday to Friday 11am to 2pm, 4pm to 8pm and Saturday 2pm to 8pm. Closed on Sunday.
