A Noida businessman who was wrongly detained by the Abu Dhabi government for wrongful identity arrived in India in the early hours of Sunday morning, Indian news agency ANI reported.
The businessman was identified as Praveen Kumar, a Noida resident in Uttar Pradesh. He was detained by Abu Dhabi police after mistaking him for the criminal they were looking for.
According to ANI, Praveen Kumar was garlanded at the airport after landing in India from Abu Dhabi, where he was wrongly arrested by police. However, he was later released.
After landing in India today, Praveen Kumar told ANI, “The CID detained me once at the airport and then let me go, and then they detained me a second time on my way to leave.”
“They locked me up overnight, forced me to accept that I was someone else, put me in a cell in the morning, took me to another city, held me, interrogated me again. Thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath acted swiftly on the matter,” added Praveen Kumar.
Earlier, after news of Praveen Kumar being detained abroad, Gautam Buddh Nagar DM SL Yathiraj told ANI, “According to the information provided, a Praveen Kumar from Habibpur, Gautam Buddha Nagar district, was arrested at the airport in Abu Dhabi The police custody was issued by the family who submitted the application for his release. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indian Embassy and the Ministry of Home Affairs have all been informed.”
He said officials later informed the family that Pravin Kumar was released and that he would return to India.
“The local police also conducted an investigation. His family now tells us that Praveen Kumar has been released and is on his way back to India. The district government and the UP government are committed to helping all citizens in every possible way,” the DM added.
