Abu Dhabi-based National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) has announced the opening of a new 400,000-square-meter manufacturing facility at the Port of Ras Haier in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.
NPCC, a subsidiary of the National Ocean Dredging Corporation, said the new shipyard, which will be used to manufacture jackets and platforms, is a state-of-the-art facility that includes automated workshops and advanced marine systems.
The Abu Dhabi Group said it will provide fabrication, maintenance, rigging and installation services and operate between all three construction phases.
It added that the first phase of the project will be completed in the third quarter of 2023.
According to NPCC, senior representatives from NMDC Group, Saudi Aramco and Saudi Ports Authority Al-Mwani attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
Ras Al Khair is Saudi Arabia’s newest industrial port, serving more than 100 manufacturing projects, with an area of 23 square kilometers, 14 berths, and assets to handle general and bulk cargo.
National Ocean Dredging Group Chief Executive Engineer Yasser Zaghloul said: “The new manufacturing facility builds on our longstanding partnership, continued growth journey and expansion strategy in Saudi Arabia and complements our current projects in Saudi Arabia, which Will increase our local capabilities.”
The manufacturing plant is expected to have a capacity of 60,000 tonnes per year by the end of the final phase in 2026.
“We look forward to further expanding the level of cooperation with Saudi industry players and strengthening our position as the EPC specialty of choice for NOCs worldwide,” he said.
“This new milestone sets the stage for our next chapter of growth in Saudi Arabia and is in line with our commitment to support Saudi localization efforts and create domestic value,” said Ahmed Al Dhaheri, NPCC CEO and engineer.
NPCC has a long-standing presence in Saudi Arabia and is a strong partner to key Saudi industry players, which has led the company to work on major projects, including the expansion of a new condensate export terminal at the Jafurah field, as well as engineering, procurement at the Manifa field, Manufactured and installed 14 SSS jackets.
“The new shipyard also demonstrates our customers’ trust in NPCC’s capabilities, allowing us to extend our expertise to new strategic infrastructure projects in the Kingdom, increase our regional market share, and strengthen our position as a trusted player in the entire EPC ecosystem preferred partner status,” he added.
Earlier this year, NPCC won two large offshore contracts for the multibillion-dollar incremental Zuluf project, a giant offshore oil field in the Arabian Gulf, about 240 kilometers north of Dhahran.
Back in 2019, it was also awarded three contracts to provide a wide range of services including detailed engineering, fabrication, fabrication, procurement and commissioning of multiple steel structures of various types.-TradeArabia News Service
