NYU Abu Dhabi begins new season of talks with Nobel laureate Art McDonald

After two years of purely online activity, NYU Abu Dhabi The Institute has announced a plan for in-person talks in the fall.

Starting September 8, the lineup will include a wide range of speakers discussing topics ranging from heritage and history to politics and architecture.

NYUAD will present three series – Andalus, Environment and Middle East, and Philanthropy.

The first talk at the start of the season will be Understanding our Universe from 2km underground, hosted by Nobel Laureate in Physics Art McDonald. The session will delve into experiments conducted in labs deep underground to answer fundamental questions about our universe; from how the sun burns to particles of black matter.

Some of the other talks that will take place include Between Skylines and Deserts: Spaces in a Photography Series, on September 14, photographers Ammar Al Attar and Hussain AlMoosawi will discuss how spaces in the UAE have changed physically, as they as captured by the photographic series.

At the Evolution of Architecture in the UAE on September 22, Rashad M Bukhash, President of the Architectural Heritage Association, will give a presentation on the evolution of architecture in the UAE. It will begin with architectural and archaeological sites in 6000 BC and continue until the 1980s.

26 September, 50U: UAE stories in 50 portraits will revolve around factual narratives of UAE history, told alongside human stories.The stories, drawn from extensive interviews with residents and tourists of the young country, are compiled in the book 50U, This was published to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the UAE.

Speakers will include Francesco Degl’Innocenti, executive editor of the magazine 50Uits editor Anna Seaman and project director Khawla Bin Khediya.
