NYU Abu Dhabi J-Term 2024 Letter of Intent for Teaching

[ad_1]

describe

The J-Term program is designed as a three-week, highly immersive learning experience in January or summer (May-June). They enhance student focus, go beyond the classroom, incorporate experiential learning, and are site-specific, connecting students to where they are learning.

Over four years, students will take three J-Term courses: one fully study abroad at one of the NYU Global Program sites*, one fully studied in Abu Dhabi to learn more about the UAE, and one in Abu Dhabi Dhabi also includes seminars abroad in important areas around the UAE, including India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the Philippines, Kuwait, Oman, Cambodia, Uganda, Tanzania, Djibouti, Eritrea and other countries.

*NYU Abu Dhabi offers J-Term courses in 15 cities: Abu Dhabi, Accra, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Florence, London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Paris, Prague, New York, Shanghai, Sydney, Tel Aviv and Washington DC.

These courses are intellectually linked to their location, draw on local resources; explore the history, culture, economy, and society of the host community, and often engage in collaborative activities with local students and faculty. These courses illuminate the interdependence of local knowledge and global awareness, while promoting cross-cultural studies and insight into complex global issues.

Taking a single course in the J semester gives students more time to concentrate on a specific topic than if they had to split their time among several courses during the semester. The intensity of the shared experience also creates an exceptionally strong bond between students and their professors. J-Term is short, but it has a lot of impact due to its immersive nature and connection between theory and experiential learning.
