Employers must value and focus on the mental health and wellbeing of their employees in a post-pandemic world, doctors say.

To commemorate World Health Day, which is themed ‘Health for All’, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan tweeted: “During the UAE journey, safeguarding people The health and well-being of people has always been a top priority. On World Health Day, we reaffirm this commitment as we continue to build advanced healthcare systems and contribute to the eradication of disease around the world.”

Dr. Divya Anidharan Rani, a psychiatrist at Phoenix Hospital in Mussafah, emphasized that the UAE leadership and health authorities have always prioritized people’s safety and well-being.

“UAE leaders and ministers have consistently emphasized the importance of mental health and wellbeing. We have strong community-based mental health services that provide care to those who need it. While the country is recovering, the focus on mental health has become So important,” Dr Divya told Khaleej Times.

She stresses the need to openly share their feelings with someone they can trust.

“Awareness about mental health is increasing, but there are still many people who have been through distress who try to hide their emotions because they fear being judged by others. In this case, talking to someone you trust can help.  Stay, it doesn’t matter if it’s not good.”

To mark World Health Day, Dr Divya runs a mental health awareness program for staff in the hospitality industry.

work pressure

According to a study by the Royal Society for Public Health, there is “significant pressure” on the mental health and well-being of workers in the hospitality industry. Four out of five hospitality workers say their jobs lead to increased stress.

Dr. Divya noted that job stress can affect both employees and employers.

“Having a health and wellbeing policy in your workplace is a great way to create a positive work environment so people feel safe talking about mental health issues and feel free to seek help when they need it.”

Dr Sreenivasan, a specialist in psychiatry at Ahalia Hospital in Abu Dhabi, said that amid growing fears of a global recession, it is imperative that employers speak to employees in a timely manner to avoid problems such as depression, anxiety and mental health issues.

“This year, we will see employees pushing themselves to the limit in order to be a good role model for their bosses. However, burnout can lead to stress and emotional exhaustion. Employers must take the necessary steps to ensure employees are able to achieve a healthy work-life balance. “

Dr. Sreenivasan gives tips on how employees can cope with stress: “Employees should understand the importance of adequate rest, they must be aware of their limitations, not take on responsibilities beyond their capabilities, and they must spend enough time with their families With friends, and finally, keep a routine and make sure getting enough sleep, eating healthy and exercising is part of their lives.”
