Wellingtonians have a new Boxing Day activity this year: orca watching.
Flocks of people have used Facebook posts and photos to track the movements of orca pods that have been cruising the capital’s swimming spots since Christmas.

Orcas were spotted for the first time near the Interislander terminal yesterday, on Christmas Day.
As they sailed through Shelly Bay, they appeared to be hunting stingrays, a stingray leaping above an orca.
There appeared to be at least four orcas in the pod.
