
Wellingtonians have a new Boxing Day activity this year: orca watching.
Flocks of people have used Facebook posts and photos to track the movements of orca pods that have been cruising the capital’s swimming spots since Christmas.

A pod of orcas swam through Wellington Harbor on Boxing Day, delighting onlookers.
Recently, orcas appeared to be swimming from Shirley Bay to Scorching Bay, past cars lined up on their way to the beach.
Orcas were spotted at Miramar Wharf, Hataitai Beach and Oriental Bay earlier this morning.

Orcas were spotted for the first time near the Interislander terminal yesterday, on Christmas Day.

An orca chased a stingray near Point Gordon in Wellington on Christmas Day.
As they sailed through Shelly Bay, they appeared to be hunting stingrays, a stingray leaping above an orca.
There appeared to be at least four orcas in the pod.
