The IBA is delighted to announce its inaugural Night of Champions boxing card, which will be the crown jewel of the Global Boxing Forum in Abu Dhabi on December 11th. The new IBA Professional Championship will feature eight exciting matches at the stunning Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi.
Several rematch games will be held during the IBA Night of Champions, where we will see previous Olympic and World Championship matches.
World and Olympic champion Bahodir Jalolov from Uzbekistan will take on national champion and first-ever Olympian Denis Latipov from Bahrain in the super heavyweight division. The boxers have already met in an Olympic qualifying match in Amman, with Latipov losing by one point in the quarter-finals.
Two-time world champion and Olympic silver medalist Sofiane Oumiha of France will face a rematch with European Games medalist Karen Tonakanyan of Armenia after Oumiha eliminated Tonakanyan with RSC-I at the last IBA World Championships. Both boxers are now competing as pros.
World champion and Olympic silver medalist Muslim Gaj Magomedov from Russia will face World Championship bronze medalist Emmanuel Reyes Liberation Army from Spain. Gadzhimagomedov won by points in the Olympic qualifying final.
Italian Irma Testa took home silver at the 2022 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, while Kazakhstan’s Karina Ibragimova took bronze. However, the boxers didn’t have the chance to meet in these bouts as Ibrahimova lost her semi-finals while Testa won hers. It will be a fantastic rematch between two well-known and respected boxers.
Asian Championships silver medalist Zeyad Ishash from Jordan and world champion and two-time Olympic champion Ronil Iglesias from Cuba met in the preliminary round of the latest World Championships. The match was stopped after an accidental head bump in the first round, with Eashash declaring the winner with points.
UAE national champion Amir Hossain Ali Saeed will take on World Championships bronze medalist Reese Lynch from Scotland. The two boxers are both 21 years old and have not fought in major events.
Saidjamshid Jafarov of Uzbekistan, 3-time Asian champion, will face defending world champion Yoenlis Hernandez Martinez of Cuba. Jafarov competed in the same World Championships but was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
In another bout between the two professional boxers, Russia’s Ruslan Feifer will once again face off against USA’s Kevin Johnson. It will be a masterclass in boxing from two seasoned professionals with an exceptional pedigree that is world renowned. This will be the only round of 7 x 3 minutes, with the remainder of the bouts being 5 x 3 minutes and 5 x 2 minutes for men and women.
We look forward to the inaugural IBA Night of Champions, which will guarantee a great night of fighting for current and past amateur boxers from the United Arab Emirates, one of our key boxing development locations.
