Noman Masih accused of carrying blasphemous images in his phone, Pakistani media reported nation. He was registered with the First Information Report (FIR) under Article 295-C, which has a mandatory death penalty.

Masih was arrested by police four years ago on charges he shared blasphemous material on a messaging app.

“Prosecutors showed forensic records from Maih’s mobile phone, proving that he shared blasphemous content via WhatsApp. Also, some witnesses were shown in court,” a court official said, according to news agency PTI.

Pakistani minority rights activist Joseph Jansen claimed the case was not investigated impartially, leading to the death penalty. While expressing concern over the developments, Jansen said it is disturbing and distressing that a young Christian man has been sentenced to death.

“Plaintiffs and witnesses involved in making false allegations against defendants often get away with it,” he added.

He claimed that blasphemy charges against religious minorities were often aimed at settling personal grievances, property disputes, religious prejudice or business competition, as seen in various cases, including that of Mussarat Bibi.

Meanwhile, human rights campaigner Elias Samuel wants the high court to annul the death sentence imposed by extra session judges and drop all charges against Norman.
